Privacy Policy
Sideye Inc. (hereinafter "the Company," "We," "Us," or "Our") is committed to protecting the privacy and personal data of users of the issa mobile application (hereinafter "the App"). This Privacy Policy (hereinafter "this Policy") explains what information We collect, how We use it, and the choices available to you (hereinafter "the User," "you," or "your") regarding your data.
By downloading, accessing, or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy. If you do not agree with this Policy, please do not use the App.
We may update this Policy to reflect changes in Our practices, legal requirements, or business needs. Any updates will be effective upon publication within the App. We encourage you to review this Policy periodically. This Policy will always be accessible within the App.
1. Scope of This Policy
This Policy applies to all personal data collected and processed through the App and the services offered within it.
2. Data Controller
The data controller responsible for your personal data is Sideye Inc., a corporation incorporated in the State of Delaware, United States. You may contact Us at: info@sideye.app.
3. What Personal Data We Collect
The App is designed to minimize data collection. You are not required to create an account, sign in, or provide any personal information to use the App. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other identifying information.
However, the following categories of data may be collected or processed during your use of the App:
3.1 Voice Audio
When you use the voice translation feature, your speech is streamed in real time to OpenAI's servers via a WebSocket connection for the purpose of translation. Audio is processed in real time and is not recorded or stored by Us on any server. We do not retain any copy of your voice audio.
3.2 Camera Images and Text
When you use the camera translation feature, the App uses Apple's on-device Vision framework to perform optical character recognition (OCR) directly on your device. Only the extracted text—not the image itself—is sent to OpenAI's servers for translation. We do not transmit, store, or retain your camera images on any server.
3.3 Text Input
When you use the text translation feature, the text you type or paste is sent to OpenAI's servers via HTTPS for translation. We do not store this text on any server.
3.4 Translation History
The App may save a history of your translations locally on your device for your convenience. This data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to Us or any third party.
3.5 Device and Usage Information
The App may automatically collect certain technical information, including:
- Your device type, operating system version, and App version
- Your IP address (which may indicate your approximate geographic location)
- General usage data such as feature interactions and session duration
This information is used solely to maintain the functionality of the App and improve user experience.
3.6 Subscription Information
If you purchase a premium subscription, all payment processing is handled entirely by Apple through its In-App Purchase system. We do not collect, process, or store any payment details such as credit card numbers or billing addresses. Superwall, Our paywall management provider, may receive anonymized subscription status information from Apple to manage access to premium features.
4. How We Use Your Data
We use the data described above for the following purposes:
- To provide and operate the translation services offered through the App
- To process voice, camera, and text translations in real time
- To manage premium subscriptions and access to paid features
- To maintain, improve, and optimize the App's functionality and performance
- To comply with applicable laws, regulations, and legal obligations
- To protect against fraudulent, unauthorized, or illegal activity
5. Legal Basis for Processing
Where applicable (for example, under the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation), We process your personal data on the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract: Processing is necessary to provide you with the translation services you request through the App.
- Legitimate interests: We have a legitimate interest in maintaining the security and integrity of the App, improving its functionality, and defending Our legal rights.
- Legal obligations: Processing may be necessary to comply with applicable laws and regulations or to respond to lawful requests from governmental authorities.
- Consent: Where required by law, We rely on your consent, which you may withdraw at any time.
6. Third-Party Service Providers
The App relies on the following third-party service providers to deliver its core functionality:
6.1 OpenAI
Voice audio, extracted camera text, and typed text are transmitted to OpenAI's servers for translation processing. OpenAI processes this data on Our behalf in accordance with its own privacy policy and data processing terms. We encourage you to review OpenAI's privacy policy.
6.2 Superwall
Superwall manages the paywall interface and subscription triggers within the App. Superwall may receive anonymized subscription status data to determine whether to display premium content. You can review Superwall's privacy policy.
6.3 Apple
Apple processes all in-app purchases and subscription payments through its StoreKit framework. Apple's on-device frameworks (SFSpeechRecognizer, Vision, AVFoundation, NaturalLanguage, and AVSpeechSynthesizer) are used for on-device speech recognition, OCR, audio capture, language detection, and text-to-speech. Data processed by these on-device frameworks does not leave your device. Please review Apple's privacy policy.
7. Data Storage and No Backend Servers
The App does not operate any backend servers. All API calls are made directly from your device to OpenAI's servers (via WebSocket for voice and HTTPS for text/camera). All other processing—including speech recognition, OCR, language detection, and text-to-speech—is performed entirely on your device using Apple's native frameworks.
Translation history, if saved, is stored locally on your device and never transmitted to Us or any third party. We do not maintain any database of user data.
8. International Data Transfers
Because the App transmits data to OpenAI and Superwall, your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other countries where these providers operate. Where such transfers occur, We ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place as required by applicable data protection laws, including standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission or equivalent mechanisms.
9. Data Retention
We do not store your personal data on any server. Voice audio, camera images, and text inputs are processed in real time and are not retained after translation is complete. Translation history saved on your device is under your control and can be deleted by you at any time by clearing the App's data or uninstalling the App.
For information on how OpenAI and Superwall retain data they process, please refer to their respective privacy policies.
10. Data Security
We take the security of your data seriously. All data transmitted from the App to third-party services is encrypted in transit using industry-standard protocols (TLS/SSL). On-device processing ensures that sensitive data such as camera images and speech recognition results remain on your device. While no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, We implement commercially reasonable measures to protect your data.
11. Children's Privacy
The App is rated 4+ and is suitable for users of all ages. The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the App does not require account creation, sign-in, or the submission of any personal information, there is no mechanism through which a child could provide Us with personal data directly. Voice and text data are processed in real time and are not stored.
If a parent or guardian believes that their child has somehow provided Us with personal data, please contact Us at info@sideye.app and We will take steps to delete such data promptly.
12. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data, including:
- Right of access: The right to request information about the personal data We process about you.
- Right to rectification: The right to request correction of inaccurate personal data.
- Right to erasure: The right to request deletion of your personal data.
- Right to restrict processing: The right to request that We limit Our processing of your personal data.
- Right to data portability: The right to receive your personal data in a structured, commonly used format.
- Right to object: The right to object to certain types of processing.
- Right to withdraw consent: Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.
Because the App does not collect or store personal data on any server, many of these rights may not be applicable in practice. However, to exercise any of these rights or to make an inquiry, please contact Us at info@sideye.app. We will respond to your request within thirty (30) days, or within such other timeframe as required by applicable law.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the relevant data protection supervisory authority in your jurisdiction if you believe your data protection rights have not been adequately addressed.
13. Additional Disclosures for California Residents
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents have additional rights regarding their personal information. In particular:
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes other than providing the services you request.
California residents may exercise their rights by contacting Us at info@sideye.app.
14. Do Not Track
The App does not track users across third-party websites or services and therefore does not respond to Do Not Track signals.
15. Third-Party Links and Services
The App may contain links to third-party websites or services that are not operated by Us. We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for, the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party websites or services. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you interact with.
16. Changes to This Policy
We reserve the right to modify this Policy at any time. Any changes will be effective upon publication within the App. Your continued use of the App following the posting of changes constitutes your acceptance of such changes. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you of material changes, such as by displaying a notice within the App.
